“One-legged Punishment Stool” recontextualizes an archaic classroom disciplinary object found in a friend’s garage—a single-legged stool that students were required to sit on to enforce focus and correct disobedience.

This friend noted that, despite its ominous intention, the act of balancing on the one-leg transformed it into something playful, with students challenging one another to sit on it next.

The work reframes those once labeled as distracted or inattentive, recognizing them instead as adaptive and imaginative.
