“One-legged Punishment Stool” re-contextualizes a disciplinary tool teachers would use for disobedient students. When the misbehaving child wouldn’t pay attention in class, they would be forced to switch their four-legged chair for a one-legged stool. This archaic stool quickly became iconic when the students saw the balancing act instead as an instrument for play. I came upon the original design in a friend’s garage, and adapted it to celebrate the imagination and resiliency of children, and especially ones who are misunderstood for having their minds in the clouds.
